Just put this on. Disk 2 track 4. Bitches Brew, and I had to crack up laughing for a bit because the drums and bass just go into this stomp for the main section.
Plenty of meltdown stuff in there and the other tracks too.

Re: Miles Davis At Fillmore
Fri, July 30, 2004 - 9:14 AMis that the one where each side is a teo macero medley?
i like the fillmore set they just put out with wayne shorter -- "it's about that time." man, you can really hear the diff between that and the set recorded with the new sax player just a month later, on "black beauty." that one grates on me. what is that saxplayer's name? i guess i blocked it out, he is so bad.
shorter always seemed to elevate the proceedings. but i think miles made some bad choices around that time. oh! steve grossman is the guy's name. yech!! and also a big big yuck for me -- airto. those little squeeky sounds he makes -- godawful.
gary bartz was a good choice i think. but i have mixed feelings about keith jarret. i find his playing too mannered and roccoco -- however you spell it. effete.
i think after the intial bitches brew blast, miles kind of lost his way. jack johnson is an exception b/c, like wayne shorter, john macglaughlin elevated things. i think miles's band started to cook again in 1972. i think the "in concert" record is really great. i love the super long version of Ife, just cooking on that one minimalistic groove. when he got the two guitarists in it was pretty great as well. i have a boot from 1973 that is really great -- unlike anything else that has been officially released. in that category, Agharta is the one for me. -

Re: Miles Davis At Fillmore
Fri, July 30, 2004 - 6:37 PMThanks for the tip, I'll have to look for those. This one on the deck right now would be the CD set that you don't like with the sax player bad decision etc. Haven't made my mind up yet, I've just sorta been made aware that there's a catalog of concerts to look into.
